How is the class set?
The class is based on two bacteria that show sewage pollution (E. coli and enterococci), from at least 4 samples each season over the last 4 summers.
Does this show today’s water?
No. It is the yearly class for the 2025 season, which the EU publishes the summer after the samples. After heavy rain the water near rivers and outflows can be more polluted for a few days.
Who tests and publishes this data?
Albania takes and reports the samples (National Environment Agency); the European Environment Agency publishes the classification (EEA, CC BY 4.0). Site names are those of the report; several sites share a name, so each place’s beach page numbers them on a map and says where they are.
