The beach

Shengjin is the main beach of northern Albania and the nearest seaside for most holidaymakers from Kosovo. The town lies in a bay sheltered by the Rrenc hills, 5 km from Lezha, with a long sandy beach that slopes gently into the sea. The shallow water warms up quickly in early summer.

Summer and sea

Beach season runs from June to early September. In July and August average highs are 31–32°C and only 3–4 days a month bring rain. The sea is about 23°C in June, 25°C in July and August and 23°C in September; in October it drops to 21°C, too cool for most people. August is the busiest month, especially with visitors from Kosovo and the diaspora, so June and September are calmer.

Rain and winter

Outside summer, Shengjin has the wet weather of the north: from October to December 200–250 mm of rain fall each month and southerly winds push waves into the bay. Winter is mild, about 11°C by day in January, and snow on the coast is almost unknown.

Heat and storms

On very hot days the afternoons are most pleasant by the water, where the sea breeze lowers the felt temperature. If thunderstorms are forecast, usually late in summer, get out of the water until they pass.
